Seize The Day

Do you have a “case of the somedays”? Do you constantly live for what you will eventually do, but never get around to? What I mean by this, is do you constantly refer to things you will do “someday”.With some people, it is losing weight. With others, it is other matters. For example:

“Someday, I will spend more time with my family/my kids/my friends.”

“Someday, I will read more books”.

“Someday, I will lose some weight”.

I could go on and on, but I think you get the picture. Many people live with a severe case of the “somedays”. They lack the confidence, will, or drive to pursue things in their lives that could and should be done now. We should all take time to do things in our lives that are important. I had a very good friend who always told me this. Anytime we talked about doing things together, such as starting a business, taking a road trip, working on projects, or anything else, he would always say that he would wait until the time was right. He could come up with a number of reasons not to do things. His biggest problem was fear, not the projects themselves. He had a heart condition he was unaware of, and passed away last summer at age 37. For him, someday will never come. Don’t let that happen to you. I believe it was John Lennon who said “Life is what happens while you are busy making other plans”.

One day, you will wake up and realize that life has passed you by, and that someday is gone. Your kids will be grown, your family passed on, your friends no longer around, and all the things you wanted to do no longer possible. You won’t likely be interested in taking a road trip on your Harley when you are 90, right? The point of all this simple – SEIZE THE DAY! If there is something you want to do, don’t put it off. Do it now! Take the time to hang out with your friends, go see that movie you want to see, watch your favorite TV show, read a book, or whatever else it is that you keep putting off. Don’t put off to tomorrow what you can do today. I am not saying to do anything crazy, such as spending your 401k retirement account on a bass boat. I just mean that there are things we can do now, but put off for no good reason. Take the time to stop and smell the roses – today. You will be glad you did…even if someday never comes. Grab the bull by the horns, and make it happen now!
