Change Your Thinking To Change Yourself

There are a number of things you can do TODAY, right now, to begin the process of feeling better about yourself. This is going to be crucial if you plan on becoming a better person overall. One of these things is to change the way you think about things on a daily basis. That may sound like a tall order, but in reality, it isn’t. There are a few things you can work on daily to begin that transformation.

#1. Let Go Of The Past

Are you tired of feeling condemned, and even perhaps judged, by your past? This could be someone you know passing this judgement, or it could actually be you doing this. This is not productive, and can be quite damaging to one’s self-esteem. You cannot expect to have the self confidence needed if you are always “beating yourself up”. Let go of the past, as it is just that: past. Work on making a better future, and forgive yourself for screwing up in the past. After all, who among us can say we never screwed up??

#2. Hopeless Thinking Doesn’t Make Sense

Do you often feel as if life is hopeless, and you may as well give up on trying to succeed? Resist this type of thinking at all costs. Despair and discouragement come all too easily at times of trouble, but hopelessness cannot lead to success. Do you think anyone would try anything if they felt it was absolutely hopeless? It doesn’t make sense. It doesn’t matter how awful things may seem. The future can be brighter – if you just let it. Getting into a positive mindset is a step in the right direction.

#3. Accept Reality

Let’s face it, we cannot change some things in our lives. We have to accept that. We cannot change our age, gender, past relationships, etc. Don’t fret about these things. If it is something that cannot be changed, don’t spend time being overly concerned about it.  If you feel unattractive due to your height, hoping beyond hope that you magically grow six inches overnight isn’t a worthy expenditure of your time. You cannot change that, so don’t worry about it. You can do the best you can with what you have, and ensure you have done all you can to be attractive in as many ways as possible, through grooming, clothing, etc.

#4. You Are You, Not Someone Else

There is really no reason to spend all your time comparing yourself with other people. Using other people as a gauge of your own worth is not productive. You may feel someone else is better looking, or more popular, or has more wealth, etc. Who cares? You are not them. You do not need to live your whole life using other people as a gauge for your own success.

#5. Reality Check

You may have a negative view of yourself, but you really need to understand where you truly are in life. Look around you – understand what you really have. Do you have family? Friends? You are obviously reading this on a computer or mobile device – you have access to a wealth of information many people in this World will never have available to them. You have to realize where you are in this life, and all the wonderful things that you have, rather than focusing on what you don’t have. We all have things for which we should give thanks. Don’t get bogged down in worrying about the fact that your neighbor has a nicer car, or your boss wears nicer clothes, or other petty details. Rather than focusing on what you do not have, focus on what great things you do have, and realize just how well off you really are in life.

#6. Forget The Word “NEVER”

I really don’t understand why people latch on to that word. “I will NEVER be wealthy” or “I will NEVER lose this extra weight”. You know what? Whether you tell yourself you can or you cannot, you are correct. In other words, it becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy. You tell yourself that you cannot so often, you set yourself up for failure. Never is a word we should all forget exists. Instead, replace never with CERTAINLY. ” I will CERTAINLY lose this extra weight”. Weight loss is not easy, nor is becoming wealthy. Life isn’t easy. Wishing for something will not make it so, however keeping the faith that you can do something, and having that “can do” attitude will increase your chances of success greatly. Pursue what you want in life – you only get one chance. Even if you have stumbled and screwed up in the past, make a vow to start over, wipe the slate clean, and press on.

Forgive yourself for your past mistakes, and push onward and upward in life. Take a can-do attitude, and pursue the things you want. You cannot succeed if you don’t attempt to do so. Give yourself some credit, you truly do deserve it.
