I Can’t Get No…Satisfaction!
Have you ever heard that age-old song? It is the cry of an entire generation. It is more than just a song – it is a mindset of many people. Feeling satisfied and fulfilled in life will affect every thing you say and do. Satisfaction and fulfillment is why some people seem as if they haven’t a care in the world – even when they are in times of trouble. Inner peace and satisfaction will help you achieve things in life you may not have thought possible.
How is this possible? How can one find happiness and satisfaction, even when times are at their darkest?
#1. Learn to be happy with what you have, and the situation you are in. That doesn’t mean that you will be sedentary, and not push for bigger and better things, but rather being fulfilled and happy with what you have now. You should still be ready and able to strive for even higher levels of happiness. Learn to appreciate even the smallest things in life. Tomorrow is not guaranteed. If you want to find happiness and satisfaction, it begins NOW. Not tomorrow, not when things change, but now. Read my previous post about Worry if you need a bit of help in that area. You must first assess your life, and think about exactly what you have. Look around you – think of all the positive things you have in your life, which could include a home, family, friends, and anything else that helps fulfill you as a person. There will be times when there is a piece of the puzzle that isn’t quite where you want it to be. Maybe that has to do with relationships, or family, or work, or whatever. The trick is – DON’T dwell on those things. Focus instead on what you DO have. That is what is important. As the old saying goes, a man once complained of not having the nicest shoes – until he met a man with no legs.
#2. Next, you should start thinking about what it means to you to be satisfied in life. You, and only you, can decide what it means to be happy and satisfied in your life. This can be a very spiritual and personal journey. You must delve inside, and decide what precisely it is that you consider satisfaction. Perhaps you feel you could work on a relationship, or something at work, or some other aspect of your life. You need to have a defined idea of what it is that will increase your satisfaction in life, and strive to ahieve that goal.
#3. Finally, if you find some things that you would like to change to increase your satisfaction in life, work on those. I have written several other posts on how to work on focusing on the positive – check those out for more details. We should always find that happy balance between loving what we have and where we are, and yet still trying to increase our satisfaction in life by pursuing bigger and better things.
On Another Note – I hope you all like the new look and feel! I updated it to give it a crisper, happier look. I wasn’t really happy with the old look, so I wanted to change. In short, I was satisfied, but still wanted bigger and better things for the blog.
Let me know what you think!
