Overcome Shyness To Succeed In Life And Business
Are you a shy person? Is this something that has hindered your success in life? It is a serious problem for many people. If you can understand the root causes, you can overcome shyness, and move forward.
Understanding and Overcoming Shyness

Overcoming Shyness
The reason most people are shy is simple – fear. Usually this is caused by either being overly sensitive, or being insecure. For some people, they have had one or two experiences where they were embarrassed, and they have been shy since. One of the ways to overcome shyness is to realize that those one or two events are really insignificant. No one else will really remember them other than you. You have to let them go, and if someone does remember and brings it up, promptly let them know they need to drop it. Dwelling on these events only makes things worse, as does being reminded of it.
We have all made mistakes. I give lectures in front of large groups of people, and I make mistakes sometimes. I simply make a joke of them, and move on. I don’t let them destroy my self confidence. My point here is simple – we are all human, and we all do things that can embarrass ourselves. If you can learn to laugh it off and continue forward, you can learn to also be less shy about it. Overcoming shyness requires that you learn to laugh at your own mistakes. You don’t need to stress over things like speaking in front of other people. For the most part, people are understanding and will not want to give you a tough time about little mistakes. If one or two do, so what? It isn’t hurting you. There are a few things you can do to help you overcome shyness.
#1. Join a group of some type.
Meeting Group sites allow you to find small groups of people in your area that have similar interests. Maybe you all own the same type of dog, or perhaps you all enjoy the same type of food or the same movies. Joining a group in that fashion can be very helpful in allowing you to socialize more, which will help you overcome shyness. Often times, very few people in the group already know each other, so most members are in the same boat as you are – they don’t know anyone else their either. If it helps, drag a friend along to one or two meetings until you get comfortable, then you can overcome shyness and have fun doing it.
#2. Take A Class
There are short term adult learning classes offered all over, and they can also be a great experience. Often times, these classes are for a few hours on a Saturday or Sunday afternoon, or they may meet a couple of weeks in a row on a particular week night. This is a great way to learn a new skill, overcome shyness, and make a few new friends.
#3. One A Day
Make it a goal to introduce yourself to one new person a day. Most people will be quite understanding about it, but exercise common sense in where and whom you approach. I recommend saying something such as “Hey, I am not trying to hit on you or anything, I am just trying to overcome shyness and need to introduce myself to someone new each day” . Introduce yourself, shake their hand, thank them, and move on. I have seen this work quite well in environments such as pubs, grocery stores, all sorts of places.
I hope this will help you overcome shyness, and help you move on in life.
