Perfectionism
Today I want to discuss something that is very difficult to understand sometimes. It is one of those situations where “you cannot see the forest for the trees”.
The issue is : perfectionism
Striving to be perfect can good, at times. It can help you become a better athlete, or writer, or whatever else it is you strive to do. Often times, people work so hard to get that final percentage of a percentage of perfect that they fail to realize that what they are offering is good enough to offer as it is. Imagine if Michelangelo had decided that The Sistine Chapel Ceiling was not good enough, and decided to paint over it since it was only 99.47% perfect in his own opinion. What would that have done for us? We would not be able to relish in it’s beauty. The point is simple – never let perfectionism keep you from your goals. Always strive to be perfect, but also realize that being perfect is not necessary to be successful. Sometimes, “good enough” really is just what it sounds.
I think this book is really helpful for dealing with this topic as well:
