Self Doubt
Are you trying to achieve something in life, but struggling with doubting yourself?
Self-doubt is certainly something we all face. Things can be tough sometimes – no one promised life would be easy. The fact that you have experienced failure before is no reason to think you cannot succeed. We all experience setbacks and failures. The difference between successful people and those that don’t succeed is that successful people accept a setback for what it is – a setback. Trying something and not succeeding is not a problem. You must realize that we all fail at times. However, you cannot expect to succeed if you don’t believe in yourself. No one else will believe in you if you don’t.
#1. One thing to remember is you need to look at the goal you have in mind, and step back for a moment. Take a look at the goal, the idea, and the concept. Is it important to you? Do you want it to succeed? Make sure you are passionate about it, or you won’t have the drive to see it through to the end.
#2. Is it technically possible to achieve this goal? What I mean is, if your goal is to live on the planet Pluto within the next 2 months, chances are that won’t happen. Look at your goal objectively, and be realistic.
#3. Set some short term goals along the way, that way you can see some progress and have a better realization of your achievements.Don’t focus on the big picture, as that may be a bit daunting. Break things up into smaller pieces. If your goal is to clean your entire kitchen, focus just on one aspect at first – for example, just cleaning out the fridge. Once that has been finished, celebrate the victory, then set a new goal, such as cleaning the stove.
#4. Another thing to remember is that you need to believe in your own idea. No one else will believe in it if you don’t. Constantly remind yourself that you CAN succeed, and if a roadblock or setback pops up, find a way around it. Don’t let minor details stop you from succeeding. I know many people that will approach an idea with vigor, but as soon as a minor setback occurs, they give up. You will not succeed if you give up too easily. Expect some problems to arise, but don’t let that get in the way of your goal. Use your passion for your goal to find a way around the problem.
#5. Get deeply entrenched in your work. You cannot be caught up in doubt if you are adamantly focused on achieving your goal. Once you have set a number of smaller goals, you can focus on each one independently.
Self-doubt can be a poison, and can ruin any project. Keep doubt in check, and focus on the bigger picture. Believe in yourself, and keep the goals in mind. Anytime you reach a small success, celebrate it.
