Success In Life And Business – Secrets Revealed
One rather important aspect of self help and self improvement is learning to be successful. Success in life is very relative; what I consider success in life and what someone else considers success may be two different things, however we both arrive at success using the same general formula. Successful people have a number of things in common. Adopting these principles will certainly help in meeting your goals. These are not in any particular order, as they are all part of the formula.

Success
#1. Start with YOU
You are the cause of success in your life, or the reason something fails. You must be willing to accept the good and the bad. In other words, if you succeed, it is because of actions you took. If you fail, it is also your actions, or lack thereof. Be ready to deal with that. Even successful people fail, they just handle it as a learning experience and a minor setback, instead of giving up.
#2. Successful People All Want Success
That may sound obvious, but it really isn’t. You have to really WANT something in order to get it. You must decide right away that you will succeed. I don’t mean “I will succeed if I am lucky” or whatever, I mean you must want it, and decide you will get it. Don’t expect it to be easy, expect setbacks. Be ready to deal with that.
#3. Write Things Down
You should be writing down your goals, plans, and ideas. Life may be like a box of chocolates, but success is more like a cake. You can’t randomly throw sugar, milk, flour, water, eggs, etc in a bowl, toss the bowl in the oven, and expect a cake. You have to have a plan. Success in life is much the same way. You must write down what you plan to do, whether it is on paper, or in a text file on your computer.
#4. When in Rome….
If you truly want to be good at something, you should find others who are good at it and do what they do. When you make a decision, think of what a successful person would do. The tax return refund just came in – should I use it to pay down my mortgage, or buy a new big screen TV? Replicating someone else’s successful thinking is the easiest way to be successful and avoid many of the pitfalls along the way.
#5. I CAN
No one else is going to believe in you, if you yourself don’t believe in you. Remember, no one was put here randomly as ‘filler’. You are here for a specific reason, and your mission is to figure that out. My mission in life is to help other people in any way I can. Find yours, and do it with passion. Even if you have failed miserably in the past, you can try again. Try doing something differently this time, and experiment until you find success. Ever heard of WD-40? It is a lubricating oil in a spray can…It is for Water Displacement, hence the WD. What about the 40? It was the 40th attempt at creating something for that purpose. It is now a household name. What if that inventor had said “Oh well, I tried 20 times, and didn’t succeed. I guess I will quit.”?
#6 Winners Never Quit and Quitters Never Win
Successful people don’t just try once, and give up if things don’t work out. Sticking to things and being committed to your cause is the only way to be successful in life. If you are not interested in working hard, then don’t begin. In the famous words of Yoda, “Do or do not – there is no try”. Living by this principle will greatly increase your chances for success.
#7 Persistence
Success in life doesn’t happen by trying something for a few days, then forgetting about it for a while, then picking it back up again. You must persist daily, and keep attacking with vigor. If you were being attacked by a lion, you wouldn’t fight for a while, then go take a break, would you? Tenacity is also important in this fight.
#8 Patience
This also goes along with the previous point – don’t expect to spend 10 minutes working on this and be successful suddenly. Ever heard the saying ‘good things come to those who wait’? It is true here as well. You must do things, working towards the end goal, but be patient. You will see results, if you keep after it. You can’t expect to hit the gym 3 times and win Mr. Olympia, right? The same is true in all other areas. You must be patient.
#9 Explicit Vision
Envision EXACTLY what you want to happen as a result of whatever it is your are doing. You should write this down as well, and post it somewhere such that you will see it daily. Be VERY specific. Don’t just say “I want a nicer car”, rather get very specific on what you want. Envision the make, model, color, options, everything you want. This helps to complete the image in your mind, and solidify that desire. If it is a car you are after, download a picture of that exact car and use it as your computer’s wallpaper, at home and at the office (if you are able to do so).
#10. Birds Of A Feather Flock Together
Have you ever noticed how true that is? You rarely, if ever, see someone driving a $150,ooo car who has a best friend that lives in an alley. My point? Very simple – if you want to be successful, avoid hanging around with negative, downtrodden people. Hang around with people that are successful, positive, and happy. If that means getting new friends, then do that. Negativity and doubt are like a poison, and they can bring you down.
#10. Motivation
Make it a point to watch motivational speakers on TV, read their books, watch their DVD’s (all of which can be found on the main page at http://yourpersonalgrowthsite.com/ if you need a place to get started). Motviational speakers are a great way to fire up your engines. Getting started is one thing, staying motivated takes effort. I try to watch at least one new DVD or read one new book on the topic every few months. This will keep the fires burning, and ensure you stay in the game.
I hope this list helps you in success – if you would like, print the list and review it every so often to make sure you keep things in check.
