Friends, today I want to let you in on another little secret to success that you may have heard before. You Reap What You Sow.

soil You reap what you sow

What I really think this means, to us, is “What goes around, comes around”. In other words, just like a farmer, the seeds you plant today will produce your harvest, or lack thereof, in your future. If you are making others happy, sharing what you have, and being generous, this will be repaid in your future. However, if you horde away things and do not try to help others, you cannot very well expect that in the future. You reap what you sow in life, so you need to be careful of what you are sowing.

Have you ever seen a situation where person A needed help from person B, then refused, only to find the tables turned at some point in the future? I have seen this in a couple of people I know. You might have also noticed that many of the wealthiest people, like Bill Gates, donate literally hundreds of millions of dollars to charities worldwide every year. Of course, you say, they can afford it. However, this also applies in our own lives. Whether you are donating time, money, kind words, or anything else, it can certainly be a positive in your own life. Some people refer to this as karma.

To apply it here more specifically, you cannot expect to have a huge sum of money to retire, unless you are diligently investing money through a retirement account of some type. The same is true for other types of success. Do you think Michael Jordan crawled out of bed one day and said “I think I will go win a pro basketball game today” without ever having played before? Of course not. He planted the seed by investing his time and effort for years before being able to do so. The point here is simple – if you plan on reaching your goals, and succeeding, you must be willing to put in the effort, and plant the seeds of success throughout your life. Anyone who claims to have a shortcut is either not telling the truth or misinformed.

The same is true for failure. If you decide not to do certain things, or to do things that can be detrimental, you have chosen not to succeed. You can just as easily plant the seeds of failure, if you are not careful. You must be very methodical in deciding how you wish to live your life.

Don’t you think a choice to help others, and be kind to others, is a much better choice? This also relates to yesterday’s topic, which is about doing what you love in life. You will certainly sleep better at night if you live a life of reaching out to make others lives better.

So – you reap what you sow. What do you want to get in return? You decide.

If you want to begin working for yourself, start by sowing a seed and investing in yourself – I cannot think of a better place to start.
